My Everyday Journey to UEA

Image
Winter is coming! BUT in the mean time, can me take the time to appreciate just how beautiful campus gets at around this time?  This morning, on my usual walk to campus, I took a step back and appreciated the beauty that is UEA and I managed to snap a couple of pictures. I also took the liberty of giving some of these places a name because of something they remind me of from back home or in general.  Lover's Lane  The road here leads to the Lake and I call it Lover's Lane because people often walk down here with the people or things they love, be it a dog or children or a 'special friend'. It is quite beautiful. Back home, in high school, there was a little dirt road near the playing fields, and we called it Lover's Lane because every spring, the Jacanders would bloom all different shades of purple all the way down the road.  This little road is reminiscent of that road. The Road Less Travelled I barely ever see people walking up or down this road....

Canadian Thanksgiving

Image
Hello everyone, As some of you may know, Monday the 10th marked this years Canadian Thanksgiving! I have a friend on my course who used to live in Canada and always talks about how amazing it is. Maybe one day I will go and see for myself! She hosted a Thanksgiving dinner at her house and invited a few friends over to enjoy the evening and food. I wasn't expecting too much as we are students after all. Buuuuuut, what I arrived to was a feast!! My friend and her daughter had taken the time to carve out pumpkins (later added to the pumpkin pie), and painted maple shaped leaves to decorate the room. All the food was vegetarian but I didn't even notice until it was mentioned. It was absolutely delicious! Potatoes, lentils, courgetties, paneer and so so much more! Dessert is always my favourite part and this one didn't disappoint. Gluten free pumpkin pie with vanilla ice cream and apple crumble with custard. I probably ate my body weight in food that eveni...

Thailand's beloved King Bhumibol Adulyadej

Image
Some of you may have heard about the most tragic news in our lifetime for all Thai people, the death of our beloved King Bhumibol Adulyadej who passed away yesterday at the age of 89 and during the 70th year of his reign. Then, you may notice that not only all your Thai friends have changed their FB profile pictures and covers all into black to mourn our beloved King but you may notice also through several news sources about the nation's deepest grieve. Not a single face without tears. Not a single word well enough to express the sorrow. The whole nation has once again united as one to share moment of the darkest hours in our history, losing the heart of the nation who we love unconditionally and wholeheartedly. For those who are not familiar with the strong bond between Thai people and the royal family, especially King Bhumibol, you may not understand why Thais are so much in deep sorrow when the King passed away. Let me proudly and humbly share with you some of his sto...

5 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE MOVING OFF CAMPUS!!!

Image
1. BETTER EARLY THAN LATE!!! Make sure you start looking for a place early because believe it or not, by April, all the good places will be gone and if you are unlucky, you might have to move in with strangers you found on GumTree!   2. PROXIMITY!!   Find somewhere close to where you spend most of your time! Maybe you spend a lot of time in the city, then get yourself a house in the city, but if you spend a lot of time on campus, then get yourself a house close to campus.  Try the Village, or The Avenues, Bluebell Road, Gypsy Lane, Northpark, Southpark or maybe somewhere near TESCO. The further you go from campus the more you might like to invest in a bus pass or a bike.  Also take note of bus routes and make sure you live somewhere where commuting to campus is not a hustle!   3. FRIENDS I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH: MOVE IN WITH YOUR FIRENDS! I know in the first year there is a lot of pressure to move in with you flatmates, bu...

Sweetness in Norwich

Image
Hello everyone and welcome (back) to UEA and Norwich!  Today is Monday (uhm, we all love Monday, or…not at all). So, why don’t we kick the new week off with something sweet? What can be better than that? Below will be a list of places you can go to when you crave for something filling, indulging, delicious, yet money-friendly. Oh, also, these are nice place to hang out with your friends (old and new equally)  1. Top of my picks: Patisserie Valerie - Location: 12 - 14 Davey Place, Norwich NR2 1PQ (pretty close to Castle Meadow and Norwich market, google it and you will see) - Price: £££ (cash and card) - Website: https://www.patisserie-valerie.co.uk/norwich.aspx - They serve a range of cakes and teas and also breakfast (all day long I believe). Such a good place for you to get to know traditional British afternoon tea as well. The café is clean, and spacious.   (me and my course mates one afternoon during our summer internships) 2. Christophe’s Crepes Norw...
