The Streets and the Ziggurats

Image
During my first semester at UEA, I attended a memorable concert with The Streets at the LCR. Having bought tickets to see him for a second time on campus this February, I was quite surprised when I discovered the cover art for his fifth and final album (being released just over a week from now). Not only is my time at UEA marked by a Streets concert at the beginning and the end of it (this being my final year), but the cover of ‘ Computers & Blues ‘ , features Norfolk Terrace! Norfolk Terrace is, along with Constable Terrace, design by Sir Denys Lasdun, and a grade II listed building . Together with other buildings on campus, the Ziggurats have won UEA over 20 awards for its architecture.  The feel of the campus, consisting of glass and concrete combined with large green areas, is one of the many things I appreciate about this university. Therefore, I enjoy discovering others, like The Streets, who share my enthusiasm. And I have seen it before. Last February, footage of t...

Fun In The Sun!

Image
Today is the last day of the exam period for the academic year 2009/2010. At the moment, there's a Fun In The Sun free event going on at the Square. It's very hot out there and totally packed! From 2pm - 6pm, there will be a climbing wall, an assault course, a challenge rodeo, a bungee run and candy floss - all totally free! Summer cocktail jugs will be sold at the Union Pub, whether it's Pimm's & Lemonade or Sangria or Sex on the Beach that you're after. Remember to drink responsibly! And wear sun cream, lots of it. The party continues tonight with the 2nd POW at the LCR. DJs will be playing everything from electro to indie, party pop to hip hop, house and garage to dubstep so get your shoes and dance the night away. If you're a fresher, make the most of it while it lasts! And if you're in your second year, brace yourselves for the final one. For those of you who've finished your degree today, congratulations and all the best :) Here comes the smell...

Silent Disco!

There's a silent disco at the LCR tonight! Instead of a speaker system, everyone wears wireless headphones and dances! There are two DJs so you can switch between two channels and pick the music you like. If you take your headphones off, you'll be greeted by the bizarre sight of people dancing to no music and chanting completely different lyrics. Last year, I vaguely remember half the crowd doing the macarena while the other half wound around the LCR in a giant train. Epic! Cheers, UEA Malaysian Ambassador
