Hungate Medieval Art
Not sure what to do this weekend? Check out Hungate Medieval Art, "a new centre for medieval art located in Britain's most complete medieval city, Norwich". It is open to the public every Thursday, Friday and Saturday - you can get a year-long pass for just 3 quid, bargain!
Based in the 15th century church of St Peter Hungate at Elm Hill, Hungate Medieval Art "promotes the medieval art visible in the County of Norfolk through exhibitions, research and an events and learning programme". At the moment, there is a fantastic stained glass exhibition curated by Claire Daunton with photos by Mike Dixon. There will be a beginner's stained glass taster workshop in mid-September, book your place if you're interested.
Have a look at the website before your visit if you like: http://www.hungate.org.uk/Home.aspx And when you've had your fill of art history, the Britons Arms is just around the corner, treat yourself to cream tea in the pretty garden before they close it when the weather gets colder. The building itself is very interesting as it is a unique survival of a beguinage in England. Read more about it in the article provided by HEART (Heritage, Economic & Regeneration Trust) - http://www.heritagecity.org/research-centre/at-leisure-in-norwich/the-britons-arms.htm. Have a good time!
Cheers,
