Christmas in Korea

Hi.
Today, I'm going to talk about Christmas in Korea.
Christmas in Korea is quite different from Christmas in the UK.

Most childeren get presents from their parents but that's it.
We don't really have a Christmas meal together and so on unless they're Christians.
Some Christians go to church on the Christmas day and celebrate Christmas with other friends at their church.
What is interesting about Korean Christmas is that Christmas day is very much like a 'Couple's day'.
Most of the couples in Korea go somewhere nice for dinner.
(Oh, unlike the British Christmas day, everywhere is VERY busy on Christmas in Korea!)
I remember once when I was 18, I went to a romantic place with lots of pretty Christmas lightings in Seoul with my boyfriend and I literally couldn't move at all as that place was full of other couples!
I was moved by other people as they were just pushing me.
After that experience, I never go outside on Christmas in Korea lol
So, as it is mostly for couples, many people who do not have boyfriends/girlfriends HATE Christmas.
The picture below shows the sad singles lol
What people often say is that singles go to sleep in tears on the Christmas day haha

Last year, someone on the internet held an event on the Christmas day for singles in Korea.
It was basically all of the singles just went to a specific location with clothes in a specific colour and tried to find their partners there to spend Christmas together.
Guess what? Over 90% was males and only a few was females. (Epic FAIL lol)
So those people in a yellow circle in the picture were males and only those in a red circle were females.

A few days ago, I read something on facebook about 'how to avoid Christmas'.
Their suggestion was 'Go to America on the 24th and you will arrive in America on the24th. Then, come back to Korea on the same day and due to the time difference, you will be back in Korea on the 26th. There you go. You just skipped the Christmas day.'
This post was shared by a lot of people.
This shows how much many singles hate Christmas.

So, in one sentence, for Korean young people, Christmas is a 'Couple's day'.
Hope you found it interesting! :)
