Celebrating 5 de Mayo in Mexico? I have been asked several times now, What are you doing for this next 5 de Mayo? I have to confess this year I will attend my first “5 de Mayo” party ever. The fifth of May is the date commemorating the Mexican army's 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco- Mexican War. Is nice to see many people from United States adopting this date as an excuse to eat some tacos, nachos, burritos and if lucky, break some piñatas. In Mexico, I have to say we save these celebrations for our Independence Day, on September 16 th , the day when you can actually see fireworks all over the place, traditional dances, and a great menu of food that for sure will have the green, white and red colors of the Mexican flag. Either way, I hope to have some guacamole this next 5 de Mayo. :) :) Claudia Liñan Mexicanstudents@uea.ac.uk Inte...

Yesterday we celebrated Orthodox Easter, which concluded the Easter season and Easter break. That's right, everyone is back on campus and the new academic term starts today, yay! :) This was my first Easter in Norwich, as last year I went back home and celebrated it with my family. I couldn't find traditional Orthodox Easter treats in any of the Eastern European shops in Norwich, so I had to cook it all by myself from scratch!!! By the way, if anyone is on the look out for Eastern European food shops around Norwich, these are the shops I've discovered, and they are actually quite good (minus the lack of Russian Easter food :)): Euro Foods - 38 Magdalen street Polish Shop - 5 Hall Road LUSA - 60-70 Ber Street - this one also sells Portuguese food! Hope you are all doing well. As always with lots of love, Ksenia - Russian Students Ambassador
