Celebrating 5 de Mayo in Mexico?

I have been asked several times now, What are you doing for this next 5 de Mayo?

I have to confess this year I will attend my first “5 de Mayo” party ever.

The fifth of May is the date commemorating the Mexican army's 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War.

Is nice to see many people from United States adopting this date as an excuse to eat some tacos, nachos, burritos and if lucky, break some piñatas.

In Mexico, I have to say we save these celebrations for our Independence Day, on September 16th, the day when you can actually see fireworks all over the place, traditional dances, and a great menu of food that for sure will have the green, white and red colors of the Mexican flag.

Either way, I hope to have some guacamole this next 5 de Mayo. :) :)
