Things to do on your arrival
Hi guys, I have gathered several tips from fellow friends about settling upon your arrival at UEA. Let's have a look!
1. Academic Registration ! ( you should have done it by now)
Definitely there are two steps:
pre-arrival and post-arrival. For the post-arrival part, this will take place
at Congregation Hall (very accessible). There will be plenty of
student guides and staffs scattering on campus, so don't you worry about
getting lost :).
Time:
* International/EU/Visiting students (undergraduate and taught postgraduate)
- Wednesday 20 September & Thursday 21 September 10:00-19:00
- Key collection from Congregation Hall before 22:00, and from the Security Lodge after 22:00 (this is for anyone gonna stay on campus)
* UEA INTO students must register on
Thursday 21 September during the time allocated to them.
Students unable to register on those dates may also register:
Friday 22 September 10:00-15:00
Saturday 23 September 10:00-15:30
Sunday 24 September 10:00-15:30

2. Opening bank account.
This task is very important, especially for those coming from a non-EU country. You need to get this sorted ASAP! Which bank should you go to? Totally up to you! We have Barclays, HSBCS, NatWest, Lloyd, TSB and so on in Norwich, but we ONLY have BARLCAYS on CAMPUS.

3. Medical Registration
This is done at UEA medical centre, near to INTO building and the university entrance on Bluebell Road. All medical appointments will be free, you will only need to pay for prescription at the price around £8.40 per one. What will you need to do? Simply fill out a form, buddy.

4. Campus tour and city tour
These activities are offered by
UEA and several societies. You can have more information from here: https://portal.uea.ac.uk/documents/6207125/9257947/International+Student+Welcome+Schedule+FP.pdf/dc139b1b-49b1-4a31-b4d5-8568175c9fbb or search your favourite society on Facebook to see
if they offer these.
5. Bus pass
This is gonna be handy if you are
keen on travelling by bus and on going to the city centre frequently. A perk of
being a UEA student is that you will have a student discount (a very good
one actually). Check out the information here to see which option is suitable
for you: https://www.firstgroup.com/norfolk-s…/tickets/online-tickets .
You can buy online (if you have a bank card already) or by going to the office
in town.

6. Laundry card for those staying
on campus
UEA has 4 launderettes: near the medical centre, near the shop on
"The Street", near the Village and near Barton Hickling. You will
need £3 by COINS to buy the card, and after that, you will need to top it up
ONLINE - this is where your bank card becomes handy. You can always ask your
friends on campus to help you out.
7. Other travelling cards
A list of other travel cards are NUS extra, Railcard or Coach card. Links are below for your to explore
8. Essential things
There are several ways for you to buy essential things. My top choice is Wilko (56-70 St Stephen St, NR1 3SH). For electrical items or furniture, Argos is a good candidate. Additionally, online shopping such as Amazon or Ebay is also convenient.
9. NI numbers - National Insurance number
This is crucial for you to get a part-time job here for most of cases. You can call the National Insurance number application line via these numbers to get more information
10. Student discount tips!
Vouchercloud or Unidays or Studentbeans, they are wonderful apps and websites for us, students, to source discounts in shops, restaurants and even at Apple Store! How wonderful!
Good luck guys with your new life at UEA!
I am sure it will be unforgettable!
