international women's day
Hello everyone,
I am Dalel, a new student ambassador for Kazakhstan. This is my first post dedicated to today's
International Women's Day, which is celebrated every year on 8th of March.
Its a day dedicated only to women and their achievements, contributions to the world today. It is also a day to promote the participation of women as equal partners with men in achieving sustainable development, peace, security, and full respect for human rights.
8th of March is a public holiday in many countries of the world especially in post-Soviet states.
The history of the international women's day started in 1909 when The first National Woman's Day was observed in the United States on 28 February. The Socialist Party of America designated this day in honour of the 1908 garment workers' strike in New York, where women protested against working conditions.
1917 Against the backdrop of the war, women in Russia chose to protest and strike for "Bread and Peace" on the last Sunday in February (which fell on 8 March on the Gregorian calendar). Four days later, the Czar abdicated and the provisional Government granted women the right to vote and since then 8th of March became a national holiday.
1975 During International Women's Year, the United Nations began celebrating International Women's Day on 8 March.
Since then International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
Women usually receive flowers and presents, especially in Kazakhstan today the weather is wonderfully warm and sunny, a real spring, and most of the women enjoy their day with their families and friends.
In the UK, it doesn't seem to be a big day but anyway I think it is a chance for us, women, to take a day celebrating our achievements and achievements of other women in the world, who gave us an opportunity to live a good life, of course there is more equality needed and actions to be done, but today I want all the women to enjoy themselves.
I wish you all, happiness, love, success and let all your dreams and wishes come true!
International Kazakh Ambassador,
