Meet Your Ambassador Monday

Image
The UEA international office is working on rebranding and strengthening our social media presence. The individual country pages on Facebook are seeing more posts than before trying to keep prospective students in the loop with everything exciting that is going on at UEA and around campus! Currently we have just launched an Instagram campaign that will allow you to get to know the International Student Ambassadors. Every Monday, starting this past Monday, a new ambassador will be introduced to you. We're hoping this will allow you to put a face to a name, but also provide you with a more genuine connection when you are in contact with our student ambassadors leading up to your arrival as well as the duration of your degree. We are always acting as friendly faces, and will be able to answer any questions you have to the best of our abilities. Head on over to our Instagram (@uea_international), and stay tuned for all the introductions to come!

Expressions British people love

Hi everyone, I would like to share something that I started to realise after these 4 months living in U.K. It makes me laugh a lot because it is so part of the culture that most of the times it sounds a little bit "too much". Here is a list of the most frequent ones: - Boom It's for those moments you are telling a story and it ends up in an expected way but with some dramatization behind it. For example, like a guy has been seeing with this girl all over, chatting all the time, having lunch together until they.. BOOM...she gets pregnant. via GIPHY Happy Days I love this one! Jamie Oliver in his cooking tv shows says it all the time after tasting it. He usually says "Mmmm...happy days!". Sounds silly and cute! via GIPHY ...to be honest British are famous for being polite all the time. So they use this expression to find a safe window to share their thoughts. The thing is that they use it a lot! It sounds like they are not honest ...

But first coffee!

Image
Having been here for two years now, I would say that I have had my fair share of coffee runs in Norwich. I can vouch for it when i say that Norwich has so many great places to get your coffee fix.            1. Strangers Coffee House  This has to be my favorite coffee place in Norwich, and might I also say, one of my favorite places out of all the places I've been while being in the UK so far. I always find myself heading to the direction of Strangers whenever I'm in the city centre and everytime i tell myself I don't need coffee, I still end up leaving the city with a cup from Strangers anyway.  My go to would be their Mocha which is basically just heaven in a cup. At most places I've been, you don't really taste the chocolate but with strangers, it's an entirely different story. Not only do you get taste the coffee, you also taste the rich chocolate. It is just a must have especially in this cold weather.    ...

The Wonders of Bulk Cooking

Image
Recently, I came home to my shared house to discover a housemate of mine cooking what appeared to be enough food for an entire football team - after a long match. Vegetables, steak, pork, rice, you name it. I politely asked him if he was okay (Depression and excessive food eating are good mates) but soon discovered that he was preparing enough food to last him most of the week. Now, bulk cooking isn't new to me as a uni student but my attempts had always been rather feeble, involving maybe enough pasta (joy) for two-three meals at most. But after witnessing my mate in all his chef-like glory, I decided to try a little harder and see if it would prove helpful. So yesterday I headed to the nearest Tesco and procured myself a packet of rice, some packets of meat and a bag of frozen chopped vegetables. The whole thing cost me 6 pounds 50p, and from what I'd worked out should be enough to last me 5 meals. Doing some simple math gives you 1 pound 20p per meal, which s...

Back to School

As a medical student, I get a shorter break than everyone else (which I'm not very happy about), which means I'm already back at university! The university is eerily quiet, but it also means that I'm able to really appreciate my surroundings on campus without the usual hustle and bustle. I didn't need to wait for my coffee at UNIO which I'm very grateful for! Although my break was short, I've had a very eventful break. Unlike most other times where I go home for Christmas, I (similar to what a lot of international students experience) stayed in the UK for the winter holidays. Instead, my parents came to Europe. I had the opportunity to bring them around Norwich and show them my every day life; where I live, where I shop, where I go to university and more! They really enjoyed the experience of getting to know more about my life in the UK, and they remarked it's quite a different experience from when they came to drop me off, as now I have the knowled...

New years' resolutions... any ideas?

Designed by Freepik I am here writing on 31st December - aka my second favorite day in the year (first is my B-day) - and wondering why this is the first time I don't have a long list of wishes. My year was so crazy with me quitting my favourite job, trying to save money to come to UEA, applying for scholarships, keeping a long distance relationship with the imminence of living together here in Norwich. Phew! I am glad I have survived. Anyways, I feel some time should be spent thinking about how I can make 2019 easier to deal with and hopefully very successful not only in my studies but personally. I found this list that really made me feel big changes just need small steps to make you engage to it. PHYSICAL 20-minute yoga 15-minute stretching routine Drink a warm cup of lemon water Go for a walk Drink  green juice / antioxidant fruit smoothie Have 2-3 glasses of water upon waking up Do deep breathing exercises  (reduces stress, increases energy l...
