Stressed Out?
Exams are approximately in 4 weeks time, and I know everyone is currently stressing out with revision, catching up with coursework and working on presentations.
Here are a few tips on dealing with stress (ref: the UEA guide):
1. Be careful about what you eat and drink.
- Well balanced diet, three regular meals a day. Eat more fruits and veggies during meals! Drink lots of water as well! Water is free in the library so just keep drinking![Don't keep feeding yourself with junk food! Feed yourself with dried fruits and nuts as they contain a lot of healthy vitamins and fibre! :) ]
2. SLEEP!
- Sleep is sooooo important during the revision period, try to get at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep a day or else you will definitely feel knackered during the next day and will be so tired for revision! At least have a 5 to 10 minutes break every 25 minutes from revision!
3. Exercise!
- You can go to the gym, play badminton, head to yoga classes, up to you! But you have to let your brain relax from all that revision you have been doing. Prevent your brain from explodinggg! :D It's definitely one of the best times you dont have to think about revision!
4. Relax and Make time for fun!
- Although you may feel that you don't have much time to hangout with friends but it is still important to take some time out to at least relax, have a movie and pizza night with friends! It gives you a break from thinking or worrying about your exams!
5. Improve your study skills.
- Effective study skills = reduce stress, as you feel more in control of your work and more confident! If you have any questions about the course material, go email the lecturer or seminar leader and they will always be willing to help you!
- Make a timetable on your exam revision and prioritise which modules are the important ones or the ones you are struggling with.
6. Look out for negative thoughts.
- A few hours right before your exams (when you feel even more stressed) prevent yourself from having unrealistic thoughts (e.g. if I don’t do well in this exam, then I will fail my degree and I’ll never get a job”. Stay positive! You have done your part by revising the required materials for your exam!
All the best for everyone's exams! :)
