International students, especially those coming from Asian countries are usually worried about not getting   the cosy, homey food in a Western country, like the UK. What could be better than having your favourite traditional meal here when you are so stressed with bunched deadlines or simply homesick? Luckily, here in Norwich, we have at least 5 oriental stores with a great variety of ingredients (those that you dream of every night :P) (an extensive list of stores has been written by our Singaporean ambassador - Joanne here: http://uea-notesfromnorfolk.blogspot.co.uk/2016/02/asian-markets-in-norwich.html ). Even on campus, in the Student Union shop, we also have a whole aisle dedicated for oriental treats and essential condiments. Today, I am going to briefly review about the biggest oriental store in Norwich - Norwich Oriental Delight.

Norwich Oriental Delight is at 1 Whiffler Rd, Norwich NR3 2AG. From UEA, you catch either bus 25 or 26 to the city centre ( it takes about 25 mins), then from here, you catch either bus 29 or 28 (another 15-20 mins). The supermarket is right at the bus stop so it is easily spotted. First of all, you will need to register for the membership. What you need are your student ID card and a proof stating your address in Norwich (this can be your electricity bill, house contracts etc…anything official with your name and your address on it). Tadaaaa, now you have got a membership! Why do you need this? A 5-10% discount ( I can’t remember precisely) or a free delivery to your home (with any bills more than £20).

What does the supermarket have? There are 6 sections:
- Section 1: cooking equipment
- Section 2: dry food such as rice, flour, noodles of a great variety.
- Section 3: different types of sauces, condiment, such as fish sauce, oyster sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil etc.
- Section 4: frozen food (buns, cakes, fish, squids, prawns, dumplings etc)
- Section 5: fresh food ( fish, crab, lobsters, vegetables, fruits – jackfruits, starfruits, guava etc.)
- Section 6: sweets and juices.

My experience is that I went there and took many photos of items and their price on the first or the second time. Since then I just stay at home, look at the photos, compile a grocery list and order it through their facebook page (message) or phone. You can check it here: https://www.facebook.com/OrientalDelightNorwich/?fref=ts. To have a delivery before 4-5 pm everyday, please place your order before 2-3pm ideally and the order must be >= £20. There are some examples of items there.
