BBQ Season

Image
Lately the weather has been pretty good in Norwich; I have seen more people walking in the city centre, students having their lunch in the square, and of course BBQ’s near the lake and lots of pictures on Facebook. Last Friday the students from Mexico organized a BBQ, at first it seemed that Mother Nature was not in our favour as it rained and hailed a little, but later on the sun came up and the weather was just perfect.       Did you know that you can organize a BBQ anytime you want near the lake in UEA? The only thing you need to do is fill up a form and submit it online to book the space.   http://www.uea.ac.uk/estates/Campusservices/informationandfacilities/bbqform For many of us, who are international students, 15-20 degrees seemed a little bit chilly back home, but now it feels fantastic. So let’s take advantage and enjoy the weather while we can.   Harlen González- Mexican Student Ambassador

UEA is Number 1 for student experience !!

Hi everyone. Have you heard that The Times Higher Education announced yesterday that UEA has the BEST overall student exprience for undergraduates? BE PROUD, UEA :D Oh UEA, oh UEA, is wonderful, is wonderful, oh UEA is wonderful!!! The survey asked more than 12,000 students about the quality of lectures, social life, support and so on and UEA have received overall score 84.8 out of 100. Yes, we are above Oxford and Cambridge too haha. I won't say much about it as it will be a lot better if you can read the articles about the results and see the actual ranking. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-22285225 http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/news/the-student-experience-survey-2013/2003450.article You can download the ranking table from this website. Exams!

It is exam time on campus - and you can tell! UEA students are flooding the library and quiet study spaces doing their last minute cramming. Exams are done very differently here at the University of East Anglia than they are at most universities in the United States. At UEA, some individual modules (classes) have exams, but the majority of them are assessed through coursework. Then, at the end of your programme, you have one exam that tests the entirety of the core work. For me as a masters student, this meant I only had one exam for the entire year...and it was this morning! (So now I'm free!) In some ways, this means more pressure - only one exam, only one chance! But it also meant way less stress during the rest of the year. At my undergraduate uni in Michigan, we had exams 2-3 times a term...which meant less pressure per exam in some ways, but way more opportunities to freak out! What are exams like in your country? The sights around the railway station

Image
Usually when I leave c ampus I go to the city centre of Norwich (around the market square). I love being there, but I had completely forgotten about the area around the train station. Last week I had to pick up a friend from the station and was reminded of it again! railway station In front of the station is the riverside of Norwich, where you can walk next the water and even fish if you want to. When the weather is good I love walking there, because it is close to the city centre (so you don’t have to go too far), but it still is a peaceful and beautiful setting. When you are done with walking around you can grab a bite to eat at one of the places that is located next to the riverside. Also, you can go to the movies, the leisure centre, play arcade games or go bowling. You can easily spend a day here and do all sorts of things, it is not too big, but it is definitely worth going to! Nora Wolff, Dutch student Ambassador

Stressed Out?

Exams are approximately in 4 weeks time, and I know everyone is currently stressing out with revision, catching up with coursework and working on presentations. Here are a few tips on dealing with stress (ref: the UEA guide): 1. Be careful about what you eat and drink. - Well balanced diet, three regular meals a day. Eat more fruits and veggies during meals! Drink lots of water as well! Water is free in the library so just keep drinking![Don't keep feeding yourself with junk food! Feed yourself with dried fruits and nuts as they contain a lot of healthy vitamins and fibre! :) ] 2. SLEEP! - Sleep is sooooo important during the revision period, try to get at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep a day or else you will definitely feel knackered during the next day and will be so tired for revision! At least have a 5 to 10 minutes break every 25 minutes from revision! 3. Exercise! - You can go to the gym, play badminton, head to yoga classes, up to you! But you have to let your brain
