Summer experience: my internship in Geneva!

Image
Picking a course at university, as we all know, is meant to give us the skills and knowledge that are required to succeed in our professional life. However, as I have learnt in my two years at UEA, we all need as much help as we can get! Internships, part time jobs, workshops and lectures are all necessary and welcomed parts of university life, as ultimately, it is not only the knowledge that you are getting in your lectures that will land you your dream job, but all those hours of practical jobs, reading emails, internships, learning from more experienced people, and career fairs that help you out with your aspirations. Knowing that, I started to become interested in the internship programmes UEA, Career Central, and my own school of study could offer during my second year. After a few visits on the websites and meetings with CareerCentral, I learned about an opportunity to work with Graduate Women International (GWI). GWI is a non-profit organisation based in Geneva, Swit

Campus jobs guide - real stories.

Salam dear readers :) Summer break is over *smiling through the pain* and it is time to go back to the library and 9am lectures. I promise to write a third part for "When Asia meets Europe" blog post very soon about my summer adventures with some travel hints as always but for now I think that I need to cover some questions that I get asked a lot. I have decided to raise an issue of jobs opportunities on campus for International Students. Usually, the question about work opportunities on campus comes second (if not first) from lots of students from Azerbaijan, Central Asian or most of the International Students who have their campus tours with me. International Students are very concerned about the applications process, how they are going to combine work shifts and studies and etc. So, I created a small questionnaire and asked my friends to answer 10 short questions about their work experience on campus (shout out to these amazing guys who literally came back to me with t

I love Norwich

Image
It is gonna be a super short entry today! I just want to say that Norwich is wonderful! I went to London last Wednesday for my Schengen visa application (yes!!!! Finally! It is gonna be my first trip to the continent ever - super exciting). London greeted me with its trademark weather, which is usually portrayed to great details in any novels set in this city. Drizzling. Grey. And dull. (source: Evening standard) Norwich would be like that as well, but the atmosphere would be different. I don't know, more cheerful (?!). London was also stuffier. Once I got off my train from London back to Norwich, I gulped all air around me at once - and I felt alive again. (source: Alphabio Control)

SUMMER AROUND ASIA!!

Image
SUMMER AROUND ASIA At the end of my fourth year in medicine, I along with my three friends, decided to have our medical placement in Vietnam. So, this summer I had the pleasure of enjoying the sun, sandy beach and proper Vietnam summer. Other than Vietnam, we also made our way to Thailand and Hong Kong for few days! So, here's a few travel guide to these amazing places in Asia. Thailand In Thailand, we made our way to Pattaya city where we visited 'The Sanctuary of Truth'. It is a huge wooden building with beautifully carved sculptures. The buildings symbolises four principle elements of the planet: Earth, Water, Wind and Fire. Then we made our way to the Big Buddha located on the top of the Pratamnak Hill. Surrounding the Big Buddha were 7 smaller Buddha representing seven days of the week. I managed to get a coin in the Buddha in my second attempt (Quite proud of that!)  With the limited time, we then visited Bangkok where we went to ye

IO Welcome Event: Vietnam 2017

Image
The annual Welcome Event organised by the IO took place yesterday - 12/10/2017 - for students from Vietnam. That was my third time to be part of the event but the excitement was relatively intact. I guess this time I even looked forward to it more than others. It was truly lovely to have a chance to see fellow Vietnamese buddies at UEA. So the event started around 6pm when people started to show up. This year I was not able to cook any Vietnamese food due to my limited culinary skills (the amazing cook had already gone to the Netherlands for his PhD study :( ). But it was all right -  "pizza is love - pizza is live", wasn't it? We nearly had 39 when it was around 6:15 pm (!) and the number kept increasing towards 6:30 pm. The atmosphere was very nice because there were full of chit-chat, laughter, and new people! The IO representative last night was Pete Ryan -  I would say, who was quite popular among Vietnamese students since he had worked with the region.
