Easter in the USA

Every country (that celebrates Easter) has their own traditions. Many in the USA celebrate by going to church on Easter Sunday and partake in brunches, picnics, Easter Egg hunts, and a lot of these are followed by elaborate dinners cooked for entire families. Lamb is one of those meats that you don't have too frequently in the US, but Easter Sunday is one of those days where Lamb is commonly cooked. Speaking from my own personal experiences, we never had lamb. We always had a gigantic ham or gammon as it is commonly called here in the UK. As a kid, however, that was probably my least favourite thing. The best thing was waking up in the morning to see what the Easter Bunny brought me. Just like Santa Clause or Father Christmas, the Easter Bunny is commonly found in local shopping malls and you can visit him before the big day. Additionally, we get enormous multi-coloured baskets full of candy, chocolate, simple games, and of course Easter Eggs. A lot of thes

Recipe: Torrijas

Hello everybody! As Easter break is slowly creeping up on us (just over a week to go!), I thought I would write another themed blog entry--a recipe this time! Last year I explained how we celebrate Easter in Spain (it's actually called Semana Santa or Holy Week, and you can find that blog post here ). Now, I'm showing you a very easy recipe that is typical of these dates--torrijas! This dessert consists of a loaf of bread soaked in milk (or sometimes wine), with honey and spices which is soaked in egg and then pan-fried! Easy peasy and so delicious!       You will need: 4-6 thick slices of stale/day-old white bread e.g. sourdough (the harder the bread is, the better this recipe will work: it will be crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Very recent bread can make it turn out a bit too mushy, so try toasting it beforehand!) 3/4 cup Milk 1-2 Eggs Vegetable Oil (we usually use olive oil in Spain) Sugar and Cinnamon Honey

Easter break is coming!

Hello everyone! This is Elizabeth, Taiwanese Student Ambassador. Easter break is coming soon!  I hope you already have plans for your Easter break. One more week to go.

Have you always dreamt of starting your own business, being your own boss! UEA has just launched a Master’s program to help this become a reality. Hear this from me, after almost 3 enjoyable years at UEA, I am approaching my graduation in BSc Actuarial Science in the summer. The journey has been a roller-coaster but it’s all been worth it. Meeting new people, building lifetime friendships and enjoying my life as a student at UEA. Amid all this I have mixed feelings about what the future holds because it is with sadness that after doing my degree it didn't give me the fulfilment I was looking for and I certainly knew as time passed on that I could not commit to a life an actuary. I knew it would be the classic dilemma of a round pig trying to fit in a square hole. Hold on! This is not a sad blog, it is a very exciting one, because along the way I discovered what my calling is. I have always had an eye for business in the entrepreneurial perspective and just recently committed
