UEA Derby day- UEA versus University of Essex

The sun was shining high up in the sky and there was an uproaring atmosphere reigning across the whole of campus of University of East Anglia since the early morning hours . So what was all this rush and enthusiasms that students came to the campus on this sunny Wednesday? That was the so longly awaited derby day where UEA sports clubs play against the sports clubs of University of Essex. The weather provided a perfect atmosphere to start with. Students were dressed in a multi-coloured and very suppportive manner for their university's sports club. UEA welcomed a large number of students from Essex University. In brief, it was a fun day where students were taking advantage of the perfect sunny weather to disguise themselves in different colourful ways and styles in order to support their teams. There were all sort of sports events in which UEA compete aginst Essex University. These range from football, hockey, boxing, badminton, swimming, basket-ball, volley-ball and the most

A report: Fellbrigg and Blakeney National Trust by UEA DOS

The trip was started at 9.30am when most of the students were still cuddling under their blankets. We had an hour bus trip from UEA to the country side of Norfolk, UK. There was a wide green grass landscape around me. I enjoyed what I saw from the window. My mind ran far from the campus atmosphere for a while. We arrived at the National Trust site, a natural protected area, in the north-east of Norwich city. The flocks of sheep welcomed us. They are just near by the canal and the tourist information hut. We spent a minute or two to take pictures and to breath. I wonder when was the last time I could feel so much oxygen went through inside my chest. We just walked to the open air boat with chilling temperature, hmmmm about 9-11 degrees. Excited! The boat was moving and going far to the middle of the canal, heading to the sea. We sailed for about 10 minutes until we arrived at a site where hundreds of seals lied on the shore. There are amazingly cute. After we were observing them for

The university's 'Live Learn' advertising campaign has won a prestigious Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) award. Two The Click design consultants received a 2010 Marketing Excellence Award at a ceremony in London last week, in front of 850 of the UK’s leading marketers. The winning campaign which highlights the university’s academic strengths also emphaised the social opportunities on offer through sport, cultural exchanges or union clubs and societies at the university. Myself and Maggie, the Malaysian Ambassador, were some of the privileged students in participating in the campaign as shown by the photos below. As a result, the university experienced a 57 per cent rise in Open Day registrations over 12 months. In addition to the CIM Award, the Live Learn campaign won ‘Best Campaign’ at the 2010 Norfolk Recruitment Awards hosted by Archant. International Party..!

Image
On Wednesday 10/03 the international students of UEA experienced yet another Annual International Party.. Personally, I think it is the BEST party of the whole year and I wouldn't miss it for the world.! But feel free to have your oppinion when I finish describing it. The party starts at 7 with the students entering the LCR to find a very lengthy row of tables that carry ethnic food.! Behind the tables, the members of the different international societies are more than happy to serve you some traditional dishes from their countries.. I saw (and of course ate) meals from Malaysia, Greece/Cyprus, Carribean, Japan, China, India, Azerbaijan and many other places.! After that I had a little break from food and made a little sneaky visit to the bar before the performances started.. Live performances of dancing and music-playing from different countries, all supported by very good lighting, stunning presenters, videos of the country performing and of course the VERY excitable internat

Spring! Spring! Spring!

March is a wonderful month here abundant with interesting events, colourful and full of positive emotions. This week promises to be one of the richest for the happenings. First of all this Wednesday there is an International Party where International Students present their tarditional cuisine, dance, music or songs. It is a great opportunity to have both panem et circenses at the same time! Judging from the previous experience it will be a success: new friends, new celebrities, a lot of emotions, pure pleasure! Secondly, it is the 8th of March. I am aware that it is not a widely celebrated date, but at least those from Eastern Europe would understand what I am talking about. It is an International Women's Day dedicated to celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women. Although, in some countries it is rather a celebration of women's economic, political and social achievements. As for me, it is just a lovely festive day, when there are a lot of flowers, happy face

One Amazing Week!

Image
A couple of weeks ago I wrote that my mom would be visiting for my birthday. I can now happily report that the visit was amazing! As we did a bit of travelling, I thought I'd share some of the highlights. (Note: all of the pictures here are ones we took!) The first day my mom was here we decided to dedicate to Norwich. My mom has visited Norwich before (she first came here in 1990), but this time I was able to show her all of my favorite parts of Norwich rather than just wander aimlessly like we did two and a half years ago when she first dropped me off at UEA. My personal favourite spot is Tombland, just outside of the cathedral, so that's where we spent a lot of time. Not only does it date back to Viking times, but it is also one of the most beautiful parts of the city, has amazing restaurants, and like I said, is set perfectly against the background of the Norman cathedral. In Tombland we had a bit of a wander, visited the cathedral (one of the only free cathedrals in the
