Pharmacy Winter Ball part II

Image
So, I mentioned in my last post that the food was really nice and this what I had, soup as the starter and Turkey with gravy sauce as the main course (yummy!)  I really love gravy sauce and I can tell you that Sunday Roast is my most favourite British food ;) After dinner, I spent the rest of the evening by talking to other pharmacy students, took pictures with them, and dancing :p It is one of the sweet memories that I have during my university life. Oh, UEA is wonderful :D Janice Wysynski (Indonesian Ambassador)

Pharmacy Winter Ball part 1

Image
Christmas is around the corner and there are so many things happening in the campus in order to celebrate this festive season. My school goes with its annual winter ball. I have never been to any pharmacy ball before, but this time I decided to go, as by this time next year I will be out on my placement and can no longer go to the ball with my current course mates. Before going to the ball, I took tons of pictures with my friends I really enjoyed the ball as it was really fun and the food was really nice. There was a photo booth for us to take pictures, so once I and my friends arrived, we went to the photo booth and took another tons of pictures :D I did not only take pictures, but I also did other things, which I would tell you on my next post :) Stay tuned ;) Janice (Indonesian Ambassador)

Economics Society Christmas Ball

Image
So balls are quite a British thing where everyone gets to dress up very fancy and we all have a wonderful three course meal. Many clubs and societies hold either Christmas Balls so during the autumn term or Summer Balls during the spring term. I'm part of the Economics Society committee so we organised our annual Christmas Ball for our Economics Society members and for the School of Economics lecturers as well. This year it was held at the Norwich Football Stadium so that was very cool as the venue was overlooking the football stadium.  Upon arrival at the reception, there were many free glasses of Prosseco so that was very nice for everyone and we all took some pictures. A while after, we sat down for our three course meal and there was also complimentary wine on all the tables. We had soup for our starter, a chicken in mango and pilau rice for our main, and then brownies for dessert. There were also christmas crackers on the tables so we all had the christmas hats.

The Development Society Christmas Ball 2015

Image
Hello, I am Yoko working as new Japanese Students Ambassador of UEA. This time, I would like to share my great time last Monday.   Many clubs and societies hold Christmas Balls at the end of the first autum term.   7 th December, the development society held a Christmas ball at Revolution de Cuba in Norwich city centre. I am not a member of this society, but anyone has interest can join. In my case, my British friend invited me.   When you enter, the committee members gave us  free drink vouchers (red wine, white wine, beer and soft drink). We opened the cracker with favourite friends and had three course meal at the tables while socialised and watched some students were dancing at the floor. The autumn of 2015 finishs to the day, Friday December 11 th . It was really great to celebrate Christmas before we separate in winter holidays as many my friends will go home and cannot see each other for a month!

Around the World, Christmas in Different Cultures

Image
Christmas originally, is an annual religious and cultural holiday commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. However this tradition has now become a huge economic celebration of gift giving accompanied with the traditional roast turkey for friends and family to gather around while singing Christmas carols. That is pretty much how Christmas is celebrated in England but how does the rest of the world celebrate Christmas? Speaking of advertising becoming successful, families in Japan get dressed up early in the morning on Christmas day to head out for some Kentucky Fried Chicken. This is all because of the “Kurisumasu ni wa kentakkii!” (Kentucky for Christmas!) marketing campaign in 1974. Ever since, buckets of Christmas chicken are being sold to the Japanese since turkey is meat you can’t find in Japan. Another unusual delicacy that is being enjoyed on Christmas day is deep-fried caterpillars by the South Africans. They have known to practice this tradition for years as

How to survive Week 12

Image
Hello, Hello! As we are all aware of, we are currently in the final week of the first semester which means you probably have all your coursework  and exams this week. Yes, let out that 10th groan of frustration as you sit in front of the computer for what might seem like eternity, trying to write a line that just won't seem to formulate itself or solve an equation that seems out of this world. In case you are worried that you're suffering in isolation, fear not for everyone else is probably feeling the same. Drowning in coursework and exams will be an understatement- I akin this feeling to being anchored to the seabed by your ankle, whilst struggling to unlock the chain wrapped around your neck whilst battling the current that tries to move to a certain direction, whilst battling the lack of oxygen so chances are you might die, wait, scratch that, you will die. Who are you kidding, the idea of survival this atrocious week is laughable, your best bet is to succumb to your wat

Christmas in Zimbabwe!

Image
If you look around campus there are christmas lights all over. Its especially nice to see the lights at night which make perfect scenes for photography. If you go in to the city there are even more lights which are an absolute beauty to see. You might been thinking what has this got to do with Zimbabwe. Hold on I am getting there. Here are some scenes you will see if you go around UEA campus: Dean of Students Office The Street Next to LCR Waterstones Bookstore  The Square Arts Block If you were to go to Zimbabwe today this is not what you are likely to see. I am talking about this on a general not individual basis. And yes, we do celebrate Christmas but its just that some of us like my family can not be bothered about the lights and the tree. For most people in Zimbabwe  especially my family, Christmas is nothing more than a day you eat a lot of food and visit your family and relatives. For me and my family we take this opportunity to visi

Dont be a Grinch- its Christmas!!

Image
The scent of roasting chestnuts wafting through the air, the glittering lights illuminating the night sky, the faint jingle of bells and the massive Christmas tree in the middle. Its that time of the year again, its Christmas! This beloved season is sure to bring fond memories of childhood (for those who has always celebrated it) or new experiences for those who are experiencing Christmas on a big scale for the first time. Being in Europe is probably one of the best places to be this festive season, Christmas decorations are in full swing, sales everywhere, Christmas carols being blasted in every store and Christmas markets galore. One of my favourite things about Christmas has got to be the Christmas markets. I mean, what's not to like? good food and friendly people- can't get any better than that. Coming from a country where Christmas isn't that big, I'm enjoying this European celebration of Christmas. Everything I used to see in TV, I'm now seeing in
