Traditional French Christmas

A French Christmas

After emptying my knowledge to find a good subject to interest you guys, I thought of the most obvious subject right now : Christmas. Obviously, we are all waiting for the Big Day to come to have our gifts, give ours and share a delicious meal and day in families.

You may think every Christmas day looks the same all over the world but it isn't the case and that's why, I'm going to show you my typical Christmas.

December 24th :

- Decorate the " Crèche" (the crib) which is a clay house and dolls that represent the Chris's birth with Mary, Joseph, the ani;als and the 3 Kings

- Have a great little meal with : Soup, Gratin Dauphinois (Potato Gratin) or Hachis Parentier and lat but not least Chocolate Yule Log with Mullen Wine

- Put all our shoes around the tree

- Prepare a wine glass for Santa

- Some goes to the church to sing the Carols while the others watch the most Christmasy of all TV show "Top TV Bloopers of the Year"

December 25th :

- Wake up at 8 or 9am for the sleepy head

- If you had been a good person, you'll Go to the Christmas Tree to find your shoes full of oranges and chocolates and the tree surrounded by wrapped boxes and ..... a list

 This list tells you everything you have to do to get your award (the beloved gifts) : from cleaning your room to dress up with cleaning after breakfast or build a fake igloo/Snowman with fake snow.

Once the list is done, open the gift and kiss the one that offered you it, even if it is a itchy ugly sweatshirt knitted by your aunt, fake a smile and kiss her cheeks !

-If you had been BAAD : Le Père Fouettard comes. He is the evil santa that wears black coat (the colour of coal), carries a whip and gives NO presents !

- Then, the CHRISTMAS BIG FAMILY MEAL for lunch and another similar one for dinner:

Starters
-> Petit four as small pastries and toast (salmon, avocado, saucission ...)
-> Foie Gras on Brown Bread or Ginger /bread with jam over it.
-> Salmon enrolled with creamy cheese

Dish

-> Capon or Turkey stuffed with chestnuts and roast popato
-> Duck Breast
-> Vegetables : peas, carrots, beans, ...

Desserts :
-> Chocolate or Fruit Cake
-> Yule Loge
-> Ice Cream

And if you survived : chocolate sweets

and it goes on for about 1 week during your visit to your whole family

MERRY CHRISTMAS GUYS !

PS : February the 12th, we put off our Christmas decoration and give the christmas tree to a recycling center
