Summer Fun

There is so much to do in Norwich, England and the UK in the summer time.

As many people head home for the summer, I tend to stick around as my PhD programme runs the full academic year. During my free time, I like to take day trips to Cromer, a lovely little seaside village on the North Norfolk Coast, where you can get wonderful fish and chips or famous Cromer Crabs; to London, as it's only a 2 hour journey by train; and to Cambridge, which is just 1 hour away by train.

Of course, there are other things happening in Norwich during the summer: Lord Mayor's Procession, which typically occurs around the American national holiday 4th of July and often features a parade, fireworks and lots of activities for everyone; the Lane's Fayre, where vendors from around Norfolk come to sell their wares.

If travelling further afield is more your scene, you can grab a train to Scotland, connecting via Peterborough and on up to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, etc... You could even take a trip to find Old Nesse (Loch Ness Monster)! I recently visited Edinburgh, and it was such a wonderful trip. I hiked up Arthur's Seat, visited Holyrood Palace, Edinburgh Castle and had a bit of a wonder round the picturesque Edinburgh. The train journey was also remarkable, as the cheapest return tickets were First Class, and I was treated to many free snacks, meals, yummy deserts and delicious drinks! This was all because of my Student Rail Card, which you can buy at any local rail station (Norwich Train station included!).

The summer is still young and hopefully more adventures will come!
