How to spend time between classes productively

Having my accommodation shifted from staying on campus to living off campus, walking back home after classes often has become a chore, hence I prefer staying on campus. Here are some tips to gain a more fruitful time whilst being on campus so you can accomplish all your goals and dreams.

1.       Pack your bag the night before

I realise that being organized helps when you are trying to plan what you want to do for the next day. So packing your bag the night before ensures you bring all your studying materials with you so you can focus on them instead of spending your free time idling around. In addition, take a few minutes to jot down all of your tests and assignments that are coming up so that you have something to start on.

2.       Make lunch for the next day the night before

Staying on campus and spending money on campus food can create a hole in your wallet. Avoid this by making a simple lunch the night before such a sandwiches, cold pasta or even stir fry. Another tip would be to get a flask of hot coffee to carry around on campus, that way you save money on purchasing a cuppa

3.       Visit your lecturers or advisers

If you have any graded assignments or exams coming up, this would be the perfect opportunity to visit your lecturer or adviser to talk about your assignments in hope to receive helpful feedback to improve your grade. Being close to your adviser also helps in the long run when asking them to write you a testimonial.

4.       Visit the Sportspark

Head over to the sports park to work out a sweat in the 1-2 hours you have between lessons. It will be a good way to reenergise before your next class and keep you fit in the long run. The fitness centre and the swimming pool have different opening times, visit here for more information http://www.sportspark.co.uk/opening-times

5.       Find a great study spot

Studying in a conducive environment produce a better studying session. The UEA library is open 24 hours and there are single study rooms or group study rooms for beneficial study sessions. Furthermore there computers for your own use so you don’t have to bring your laptop around on campus.

6.       Enjoy the scenery

UEA is one of the most scenic universities with lots of nature and a beautiful lake. Take the time in between lectures to walk around the lake and talk with your friends, read a book or even have lunch on one of the benches. This is the perfect opportunity to get to know your course mates as well as to make some connections. Appreciating the nature also helps you to relax and get ready for your next lecture especially if you’ve been having a half day full of lectures.

Enjoy a fruitful time at UEA! :) - Joanne Sursas (Singaporean Ambassador)
