Weather and England

When you think of England, you obviously rarely think of sunbaths nor white sand beaches. Indeed, the typical cliché has it that the Englishmen are born with umbrellas included.

Yet, let's tackle some stereotypes !

1) Rain as OMNIPRESENT

I won't say that it is all is sunny under the palm tree but we have had some good week so far (I even bought some sunglasses !!)

Something choking at first sight is that English people DO NOT use umbrella most of the time. Contrary to Indian monsoon season, English rain is, in fact, a slight drizzle which can last for days by intervals or 3 hours. You can easily go out, shopping, walking or jogging, it won't be that inconvenient, though one tip is to be reminded : WATERPROOF mascara !

2) Night at 4pm

One thing I feared when I came here was that life as light would stop after 4pm. Winter shortens days all across the globe but England being in the north, the rumour was that it was thus worst. In the winter, days do die early but life doesn't. Beautiful lamps are enlightened all across the street, the shops and parks which makes the scenery, if possible, more beautiful.

3) All-Mighty Wind

Norwich being on the east cost of England, and thus near the sea, it is windy.
FIRST VERY IMPORTANT TIP : Never buy an umbrella !! The wind will break it anyway and that's one of the main reason English people got used to the raining.
Nonetheless, I have to say that it is very bearable. Although the combination rain/wind can make you a little mad, it is not frequent and most of the time, the light north breeze is just what you need to cool down under the sun.

4) No sun

Though, spring and summer doesn't come early. From April on, England has a cool weather that can go up to 35 degres depending on where you are. Right now, the sun is showing its first rays and you can see the early signs of spring. It being : shorts for boys, no more moncler for girls AND lunch on the steps of the Square.

I hope it will help you have a better and clearer view about England.
