Valentines Day - 'Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.' [Roman 13:9]

'Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.' [Roman 13:9]

Valentine’s Day is a day where we show our love and respect to the ones who we appreciate. Some could say that we should show appreciation to them every day, but what differs 14th of February each year to every other 364 days in the calendar? Is it the powerful impact of fictional heart shaped paper cuttings or the red velvet roses that scatter across pedestrian floors?

We live our lives with routines and rhythms, passing everyday doing things we are comfortable with. We forget these days because it feels like every other day and things just simply blend together. A mere Friday night would be the same as every other Friday night, like every other dinner you have, like every other lecture you go to.

Today is the day where it breaks our repetitiveness and will uncomfortably do something we will forever remember. Like a birthday or anniversary, did you remember what happened to your 18th birthday? These events mould a memory in our mind and Valentine’s Day should do the same. Even if it is silly, romantic or even boring, breaking out of your comfort zone already should be praised and appreciated. Don’t find it weird finding gifts at your door or getting approached with flowers, breaking that comfort zone isn’t easy, probably it was more awkward and uncomfortable for the other person sending it.

There aren’t many days you can remember specifically in a year, make valentine’s day one of them. Does not matter what you do, but know that you have tried and you have made history to yourself and forever treasure the moment and the memory. Time does not wait for you, live every moment and enjoy it.

I would like to finish off with a poem I found on the internet, have a nice valentine’s day everyone.
