Easter in the USA

Every country (that celebrates Easter) has their own traditions. Many in the USA celebrate by going to church on Easter Sunday and partake in brunches, picnics, Easter Egg hunts, and a lot of these are followed by elaborate dinners cooked for entire families. Lamb is one of those meats that you don't have too frequently in the US, but Easter Sunday is one of those days where Lamb is commonly cooked.

Speaking from my own personal experiences, we never had lamb. We always had a gigantic ham or gammon as it is commonly called here in the UK. As a kid, however, that was probably my least favourite thing. The best thing was waking up in the morning to see what the Easter Bunny brought me.

Just like Santa Clause or Father Christmas, the Easter Bunny is commonly found in local shopping malls and you can visit him before the big day. Additionally, we get enormous multi-coloured baskets full of candy, chocolate, simple games, and of course Easter Eggs. A lot of these Easter Eggs are marshmallows and plastic eggs that open and contain money or other smaller candies. As you get older, and in my case, my parents would put more than just candy, they would put DVDs and gift cards. Because the US has a range of religions and cultures, many are beginning to treat Easter as a non-religious holiday, so it is no longer exclusive to the Christian faith.

Enjoy your Easter if you celebrate it! And share your own traditions!

Happy Easter!
