Asian Markets in Norwich

Having come from an Island known as the food paradise, I occasionally crave Singaporean food. Sometimes I even have dreams slurping some Ba Chor Mee noodles or waking up craving some spicy Nasi Goreng ...

I mean, look at the pictures below and you can understand why these food appear in my dreams.

Although there are recipes online for me to recreate these dishes. Sourcing for these ingredients in Norwich become a challenge.

Well, gone are the days of me searching high and low for these ingredients in Tescos or Sainsburys. Luckily for us Asian international students, there are some Asian Markets in Norwich to get all your Asian goods.
 

An Asian market situated near Campus is the SUNRISE CHINESE MARKET. Situated at 84 Colman Road, Norwich NR4 7EH, it is a short distance from Bluebell Road. They even have their own Facebook page and you can contact them via this number 01603 927952. They sell mostly Chinese goods and sauces at affordable prices.

As the name suggests, the following Asian market known as SPICELAND provides all the different spices and herbs for Indian cooking such as cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, curry powder, and other essentials to make a good pot of spicy curry. The spices are being sold at really affordable prices with a larger quantity as compared to Tesco or Sainsbury’s. Even more, they sell frozen prata!! So heading there is definitely worth the effort, although you might just have to keep an eye on your expenditure J Spiceland is located at 65 Dereham Rd, their contact is 01603 621412 and they are open daily till 9pm.

If you happen to be doing your other shopping in town, why not stop by Orient Express or Oriental Delight. Orient express is situated right in a cute little segment of the Norwich markets. They sell fresh vegetables and other sauces and pastes ranging from Singaporean goods to Japanese goods to China goods. Take your time to pick your selection. Orient Express is situated at Norwich Market, Row H – stall 164, 165, 151. They also have a Facebook page and a website for you to keep updated about the products.

Further up in town lies Oriental Delight. They sell fresh and frozen fish, seafood and meats, eggs, oil, canned and dried goods, fresh fruits and vegetables, kitchen utilities, disposable products and many more products ranging from Vietnamese to Filipino to Indonesian and even Bangladeshi. Oriental Delights has a website which provides more information, in addition an online ordering option will be available soon. Oriental delight is located at 1-3 Whiffler Road, Norwich NR3 2AG. Their opening times are from 9:30am to 6:00pm on Monday-Saturday and 11:00am-5:00pm on Sunday. Their contact is +44 (0)1603 485 590.
