Scotland - Ben Lomond

Ben Lomond is a mountain in the Trossachs National Park. It is 974m high and overlooks the beautiful Loch Lomond below.

The hike up was much more difficult that Conic Hill the day before, but it was still very manageable and enjoyable.

We knew we had been lucky with the blue, sunny skies when the clouds started to roll in and the drizzle began. This was on our ascent, as we hit about 600m in height the clouds descended upon us and we could barely see where we were going!

Then the snow emerged and the path disappeared... Wet, cold and worried we stopped for a quick sip of warm hot chocolate and a nibble of chocolate. We discussed how dire the conditions would have to be before we would turn back and agreed we should press on. Crazy.. !

Finally, the trig point materialized through the mist and we knew we had summited Ben Lomond!

Feeling accomplished we took some compulsory summit selfies and laughed in the freezing wind at our sight limitations and the descent ahead.

Infact, we laughed the whole way down. The endorphins wholly overriding our previous fear of the snow covered mountain edge and pushing us through our onset of fatigue!

Highly recommend this. If I would do anything different, I would include more snacks!!
